As much as I love colour, I also like the grey on grey trend for the autumn 2013. Matte and shiny, gunmetal and smoking grey, charcoal and slate – all shades of grey made their way to the runways and into the shops this season, forming a basis for a strong and crisp business look. So when I saw Jatte, in grey, with her long wavy hair and blue-blue eyes, leaving the Library of Birmingham I told John that we had to photograph her for our Brum Street Style Project!
Jatte turned out to be a Danish journalist who came to Birmingham on a course about social media and blogging. Since I want to the images to look almost monochrome to accentuate the textures and shapes of grey – triangular ‘fleecy’ matte wool poncho, metallic figure-hugging dress and beautifully stitched boots – I shot along the line of glass paneling. This eliminated the blue sky from the pictures and enhanced Jatte’s own reflection.
