Martin O’Neil reminded us about Nithsdale Regatta 2018 the day before. I documented the local crews from Nithsdale Amateur Rowing Club racing other clubs across Scotland and North England in April 2015 but the event date (and month) kept changing and I hadn’t a chance to revisit the Greensands in the subsequent years.
As we knew the date for sure this time John and I decided to spend a couple of fun and relaxing hours outdoors, on the banks of the river Nith, amidst fans, dog walkers and other photographers.
Of course, these hours were that relaxing for us, the onlookers. The rowers were battling it out on water since 8 am till 6 pm. 10 clubs competing in 123 races, 113 medals to win!
I used my camera to document just a fragment of this annual regatta, to celebrate sportsmanship and the incredible tenacity these rowers of all ages and gender exhibited, and the house officials who did everything possible to run this massive competition smoothly.
As always, it was amazing to observe the easy camaraderie the crews shared and their enjoyment of their sport!

As promised, publishing some photos of the students in paper garments I took on the 3d floor terrace of the Library of Birmingham after Joseph Chamberlain College Fashion Show (Part 1 with the escalator show pics is here). I agonised forever how to process these images without killing that evening…
Another page has been turned in our Dumfries diaries as we attended the Whitesands Fair last weekend. John had to pick up a parcel in the town centre and I tagged along to have a look at the rides near the river Nith – briefly – as it was overcast…
I witnessed the most amazing sunset through a little window on our landing overlooking Kingholm Quay. Intense reds and oranges lit up the distant skies over the river Nith – and here I was, at home – letting this amazing winter sunset photography opportunity slip through my fingers. For the few past…
It’s our first spring in Dumfries. After an almost non-stop inclement weather, hales, floods and rain, I have started to wonder when the springs comes. Then by some trick of nature the skies cleared for two days in a row, the sun peeked out – and the tree across the…
