After a long refurbishment the revitalised Dock Park in Dumfries has finally opened to public. To celebrate the launch the whole two weeks of activities – music performances, face painting and storytelling, orienteering and balance bike training and many others – were scheduled to lure the visitors. I was tempted by Urban Strawberry Picnic, local bands playing at the newly restored park bandstand and, of course, the paper boats being set afloat.
John remarked just several days ago that, apart from the boats moored at Kingholm Quay Harbour he hardly ever saw any boats on the River Nith when he walked to the town centre. Well, last Friday was a boat day treat at Dock Park! Not only the Stove, an artist-led Dumfries-based network, organised a paper boat release as park of Dock Park launch events, but also local sail boat enthusiasts timed their sail to Kingholm Quay to this release.
I observed Will on his motor boat assisting the Stove, and hundreds of floating pink paper boats, and sailboats sailing away down the river. Very enjoyable!
