Scottish Contemporary Art Network meeting in Dumfries

Here’s a collage of a few photos I took at the Scottish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN) informal meeting on 23 January 2014 at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries. This meeting was part of the SCAN’s series of Scotland-wide ‘roadshows’ where artists, photographers, event producers and gallery representatives were invited to share their ideas about what was needed for the art development in the area.

Part of John’s project at the University of Glasgow involves networking with artists, and I wanted to meet some creatives from Dumfries and Galloway area as well so we booked our seats to attend the meeting. The attendees talked about artist networks and exhibition opportunities in Dumfries, a need to improve perception of photography as an art form, their concerns about accessing professional development, about existing hurdles to inter-generational networking and other issues. It was quite educational and I had a good chat with a few people – only the fact that it was my birthday and I had an onset of a nasty cold prevented me from staying longer.
