This post is a throwback to the first session for my Urban Portraits Dumfries project. Moxie, Roman and their delightful (and collaborative!) kids were so natural during our lifestyle shoot on the streets of Dumfries (see Part 1 and Part 2 I published earlier). I was very impressed with all of them!

Like many photographers, I sometimes have occasional sharp pangs of anxiety and self-doubt.  Is what I chose to do with my life worthwhile? Does my photography matter? Does anyone actually need family portraits anymore in the age of mobile phones? Was my project valuable to people or a just gratuitous exercise?

I was touched and encouraged last night by Moxie’s Facebook status where she shared a portrait of her children in front of the Friars Vennel mural from our urban shoot, and by the likes and comments of her friends. In response I decided to share a previously unblogged set of images of Moxie & Co playing on Devorgilla Bridge and walking towards Friars Vennel after we officially wrapped up.

In the mood for black and whites at the moment, so here they go…
