I photographed Aarti outside Piccolino restaurant at Oozells Square. The crown of the last remaining autumnal leaves on the trees almost glowed, bright yellow, against the black exterior of the restaurant – a perfect frame for my Birmingham Street Style Project monochrome lace find.

I liked Aarti’s black lace dress, fitted around the upper body with subtly flared sleeves and a full twirly skirt, its texture, weight and layers. Several images of black lace dresses worn as daywear are referenced on my ‘Urban Style Women’ Pinterest board to show you variations of this urban look that became popular because of its high day to night potential. This is particularly relevant in the coming holiday season!

Aarti paired her lace dress with a vintage-style cinch waist belt with a metallic butterfly buckle. It’s a classic 50s style belt that looks great high on the waist, drawing attention to it and offsetting the monochrome of the heavy lace.

If you own a black lace dress, what’s your way of wearing it?
