Birmingham event photography – The Show: Ten at Bullring
On Saturday I watched the 5pm run of the Show: Ten at Bullring on Saturday. Part of Style Birmingham Live, the fashion spectacular was designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Bullring and was hosted by Mollie King from the Saturdays. Ten models in ten scenes showcased on the catwalk some of the top trends of the autumn-winter 2013 collections, all available for purchase from the shopping centre.
Hair was by Umberto Giannini and makeup by Illamasqua, both from Selfridges. For once, high street did not parrot haute couture – and models were not over-styled but looked quite fresh, relaxed and natural. The clothes were imminently wearable. I loved the green tones of the runway set – it’s my favourite colour this season. It worked well with psychodelic light projections on the back of the stage. Blue-green swirls, camouflage, polka dot and other designs changed in succession as new style trends/scenes were introduced. All in all, the show was a success!
I’ll summarise this season’s key trends as presented by the show organisers, scene by scene, below.
Mollie King, of the Saturdays, opened the show wearing black cocoon shell top and smart skort from River Island
Scene One: THE RED ZONE – girls modelling bright red outfits
Scene Two: OFF TO THE COUNTRY. Effortlessly stylish ensemble from Tommy Hilfiger. I love how the floral shirt is combined with herringbone trousers and accessorised with big navy and plum scarf
Scene Three: URBAN. All from G-Star Raw – khaki camouflage oversized coat, navy blue felt trilby and clever leather and wool cuff gloves
More URBAN from DKNY – grey wool cape coat and khaki military dress with elasticated hem
Scene Four: PASTEL PUNCH. Chunky jumper, blush pink pencil skirt and coral wool coat from Reiss
Scene Five: HI & MIGHTY. Love this A|X Armani Exchange black wax effect trench coat
Scene Six: TARTAN TWIST. A quintessentially British look – Vero Moda bowler hat, black and white check chiffon blouse, dungarees and check coat from Warehouse
Scene Seven: CURVES & COATS. Very sleek – Zara grey pinstripe suite, navy wool coat with leather shoulders and roll neck jumper
Scene Eight: GRANDMA’S ATTIC. Vintage look from Oasis – this combination of winter florals dress, retro bead necklace and animal print scarf works surprisingly well
Another surprising and working combo of vintage prints – Pretty Green red and navy check shirt together with Bank navy and gold chain print jacket
Scene Nine: ANIMAL INSTINCT. French Connection black and grey leopard print blouse and trousers teamed with chunky ivory faux fur trim snood
Scene Ten: SHINE. Miss Selfridge grey mesh embelished 20’s style dress
The amazing 3,000 lanterns of various shapes and sizes lit Dumfries streets during last year’s Big Burns Night parade. This year Doonhamers are challenged to break this record with 4,500 lanterns for 2016 Burns Carnival. How are they going to complete such a monumental task? A series of lantern making workshops have been…
On Sunday, 11 August, John and I attended the 13th anniversary of a joyful and colourful Birmingham Ratha Yatra Festival, also known as Festival of the Chariots. It was organised by ISKCON Birmingham and featured a giant wooden Jagannath Chariot pulled by hand by the Hindu devotees from Chamberlain Square…
DMC Live Showcase at the Stove was the final event of the packed Dumfries Music Conference 2016 programme. Zoe Bestel appeared singing her spell-binding poignant melodies. Indigo Velvet treated Dumfries and Galloway music lovers with their indie mix of Africal inspired “tropical pop”. The local band Brat and the Bonemen…
Although I saw these new Billy Connolly murals commissioned by Glasgow City Council to commemorate the actor’s 75th birthday in my Instagram feed, I decided to walk around the city and experience them in person. I was not alone. A whole flock of Glasgow Mural Trail visitors with bright orange…
Nithraid 2018, the 6th instalment of the popular Dumfries river fest run by the Stove Network, delivers a solid programme of daytime, afternoon and nighttime activities to Doonhamers
First I heard the sounds of Indian music, which is unusual for Edinburgh Old Town. Then I saw busy people equipped with radios and some tourists peering down over the railings on Victoria Terrace. In the corner of the terrace a huge net with multicoloured balloons was tucked in. In…
