I had a lump in my throat when I watched Sue Bryce, a portrait photographer and educator, encouraging people to #existinphotos during her CreativeLive workshop.

Everyone deserves a beautiful portrait of themselves, especially women – wives, mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers. I heard Germain Greer speak in Birmingham about this phenomenon of the ‘disappearing woman‘ in our culture. Are we conditioned by the media not to accept ‘the size, role and shape of adult women’?

How many times I heard a mom who brought her kids to a portrait session saying ‘Oh, not me. Just the kids.’ Those kids, as they grow up, would treasure any photograph of her. They wouldn’t care about her body image hangups, just the love they feel for her!

You must exist in photographs, for your children, for yourself, for the people who love you… No matter how fat you think you are, no matter how old you think you are, no matter how shy you think you are!

Please watch this #existinphotos video with Sue Bryce’s heartfelt message!
