I’ve timed this post about Moira’s location portrait session in Dumfries to her 60th birthday on 11 September. Happy birthday, Moira!
If you read my blog, y0u will recognise the micro scenes from the recce I did in Kingholm Quay not so long ago. I wanted to give Moira as much variety in textures and colours as possible within a short walking distance considering that the shoot took place in a brief dry spell between a persistent morning drizzle and a heavy rain.
We had a cup of tea and a long chat in the morning waiting for the sky to clear – the alternative was to reschedule. In the end I was glad that we were patient. The greens were lusher. I love the wind sweeping Moira hair and the stems of wheat making it feel like moving waves. We had good fun during the shoot!
We invite professional photographers in our lives at the time of important changes, be it a birth of a new family or an arrival of a little baby, a gold wedding anniversary or, like Moira, a nice round birthday date. The memories in these photographs are like a string of precious pearls on the neck of time, each a little celebration item to be passed on to future generations. And there are so many other moments we can celebrate this way – a new hairstyle, moving to a new town, your child’s first day of school, kids leaving home for university…
