Brummies celebrated in style the start of the festive shopping season with Xmas Lights Switch On and Parade on Saturday.

With an announcement from Lord Mayor of Birmingham at Victoria Square the multitude of Xmas lights and street displays was switched on and the snow machine on the balcony started shooting ‘snow’ onto the crowd below, to the enjoyment of kids and their parents.

Father Christmas took his reindeer ride on the streets of Birmingham, closely followed by elves and various fairy tale and pantomime characters. Real camels, reindeer and a donkey were penned before and after the parade for the younger visitors.

I loved the colourful merry-go-round in the snow – the rides were good fun! Below are some pics I took.

Were you there on Saturday? What parts of this event did you enjoy?
